Addressing the structural consequences of poverty through targeted health interventions, the Far Eastern University–Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) actively deploys clinical expertise and capacity-building resources to lower barriers to primary care for marginalized populations.

Operating through the FEU-NRMF Office of Community Engagement, the institution directly bridges basic service gaps by extending resources into Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

A clear operational example of this commitment was the Kalusugan Para sa Lahat initiative, executed from November 30 to December 1, 2024, at the Barangay Burgos covered court in San Jose, Tarlac.

Led by the Office of Community Engagement alongside volunteer faculty, staff and students, the multi-day mission delivered comprehensive health literacy seminars and technical training for residents and Barangay Health Workers. Participants traveled from multiple remote sitios across Tarlac, including Maamot, Cutog-Cutog, Pisapungan, Socorro, and Carag.

The training modules focused on the core responsibilities of Barangay Health Workers, preventative measures against waterborne illnesses, and practical instruction on taking vital signs and administering first aid. FEU-NRMF volunteers also conducted interactive demonstrations on operating blood pressure monitors, giving local attendees hands-on diagnostic practice. To ensure sustained community impact, FEU-NRMF concluded the event by distributing complete first aid kits, blood pressure apparatuses, and essential medical supplies to representatives of each sitio.

Far Eastern University–Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) maintains a comprehensive institutional policy and operational framework governing waste disposal, enforcing strict, dedicated protocols for handling hazardous materials across its academic and healthcare facilities.

Overseen by a specialized Healthcare Waste Management (HCWM) Committee—led by the Waste Management Officer, Pollution Control Officer, Radiation Officer, and Safety Officer—the policy enforces rigorous point-of-origin segregation for hazardous waste streams, including infectious, sharps, genotoxic/cytotoxic, pharmaceutical, chemical, radioactive, and waste oil. Waste is isolated using designated color-coded containers and clear danger labels.

Housekeeping personnel equipped with mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) collect hazardous waste on a rigid schedule and transport it via dedicated, covered trolleys to locked, well-ventilated temporary storage areas, ensuring hazardous items are held for no longer than 48 hours. Off-site transport and final treatment are executed exclusively by DENR-EMB registered hazardous waste transporters through certified methods such as autoclaving, chemical disinfection, and high-temperature incineration.

To maintain statutory transparency, the Pollution Control Officer tracks all waste quantities and transport logs on the DENR-EMB online Hazardous Waste Management System to secure official Manifests and Certificates of Treatment.

Far Eastern University–Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) has reinforced its commitment to environmental stewardship by enforcing an institutional process to measure, record, and track the total amount of waste generated, recycled, and sent to landfills across the campus.

Under the institution's standardized tracking framework, all operational waste streams—including general, recyclable, residual, hazardous, and biomedical waste—are strictly segregated at source across academic and administrative departments. To ensure precise accounting and transparency, segregated materials are weighed by accredited waste haulers using weighbridge tickets, official transport manifests, and detailed internal collection logs.

The collected metrics are compiled to compare total waste generation against recyclable volumes delivered to recovery facilities and residual waste sent to sanitary landfills. By accurately calculating its operational waste diversion rate, FEU-NRMF generates regular monthly and quarterly monitoring reports aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). This data-driven approach allows the medical foundation to evaluate environmental performance, identify opportunities for material reduction, and continuously elevate its campus recycling efficiency.
